Flair, May 1950. $50, vintage oversize magazine, 122 pages plus inserts, color and black and white interiors. Good, readable condition, markings on cover, spine intact.
Flair is a special magazine. When I moved to New York in 2002, there was a vintage magazine store that had a complete run of it. Leafing through it, the production on every issue was incredible...editor Fleur Cowles created the magazine with an ethos that demanded for all pages to be as creative as the clothes/art/ideas that the magazine was covering. This particular issue features a beautiful die cut cover by Sylvia Braverman. The brilliant design choices that the magazine employed may have contributed to its rapid downfall, as it only lasted for one year and twelve issues. But we can still read it today and enjoy a magazine that is, aesthetically, perfect.
