Hammerspace edited by Lilli Carré and Alexander Stewart. Digest size, 74 pages, color and black & white interiors.

This is an exciting new journal from Carré and Stewart, focusing on ideas about animation and comics. “Hammerspace” refers to the infinite amount of space within or behind something in which items can be stored. The term stems from the trope of a cartoon character pulling an object, such as a large mallet, from behind its back. Carré and Stewart are assured hands to lead us into this territory, with minds both passionate and encyclopedic concerning animation and cartoon art. Writing and drawing from Annapurna Kumar, Scott Bukatman, Margaux Duseigneur, Austin English (conflict of interest alert), John Hankiewicz, Stefanie Leinhos, Steve Reinke, and Sonnenzimmer populate these pages.
