Sporgo #3 by Laura PallMall, $5. Digest size, 24 pages, black and white throughout.
Laura PallMall is one of my favorite storytellers in comics today. The work at first feels deadpan and unemotional, but as the forces of cartooning kick in, a style of writing and expressing the thoughts and actions of the characters emerges that is unique and full of a strange kind of heart. Straightforward drawing and statements create a complex web of actions, situations and ideas, all of them specific to PallMall's concerns. Strong work, elegantly presented, these are good comics.
