While We Waited For Things To Change by Sanika Phawde, $5. 12 pages, 6 x 11 inches, landscape format, black and white throughout.
I loved this comic---it has a really unique voice and mode of storytelling, and its warm theme contrasts well with its avant grade approach. A daughter and her mother watch movies together on HBO every night and talk about things together, trying to figure out the day to day structure of life. Phawde's drawings are expressive and her page layouts are unique, but all her choices amplify the emotion of her story. Strange and beautiful comics!
