Suspect Device #4 edited by Josh Bayer. Retail $8 WHOLESALE $4. Magazine size, color cover, black and white interiors. 72 pages.

Suspect Device is an innovative anthology that emphasizes improvised comics, yielding genuinely shocking and hilarious results. Instead of improvisation with a net, editor Bayer employs a classic comics game based around the comic strip Nancy. Contributors are offered, at random, two panels from a Nancy strip and asked to build a story around those panels [this issue expands those rules in many directions]. Bayer chooses some of the best storytellers in comics for the project and the result isn't simply pure fun (though it is often that) but also a fascinating look at how comics are built around and how they can be rebuilt from the inside.
