You Don't Have to Fuck People Over to Survive by Seth Tobocman, $22. 165 pages, Published by AK Press.
A collection of short works by Tobocman. Tobocman is a master cartoonist, his images and compositions are (to me) extremely beautiful and assured. But that's only a small part of what makes him one of the more important artists to work in comics in the last few decades: there is real earned (not a performative or flimsy) idealism in his cartooning. The stories in this book are clear eyed, thoughtful, and right. Comics is a natural form for this kind of work, but so often the art comics world ignores this area of cartooning. Their loss. This is a beautiful book, in so many ways.
