David Wojnarowicz: A Definitive History  of Five or Six Years on the Lower East Side by Sylvère Lotringer and Giancarlo Ambrosino $29.95 231 pages, published by Semiotext(e)

I've long wanted to get some Semiotext(e) books into the shop, and I though I'd start with this one, a personal favorite. Wojnarowicz is of course known worldwide as one of the most famous visual artists of the 80s and 90s, but should be of special interest to Domino customers not only for his collaboration with James Romberger for Vertigo, but for the clear text/visual nature of his mature work. But this is no mere biography...instead, we have a true cultural history of a specific moment in time, which makes clear that the world famous lower east side art scene that Wojnarowicz emerges from actually only existed for the artists themselves prior to the 'scene' being known by all. Lotringer and Ambrosino do a stunning job of charting the real history of a cultural and visual moment in time. Highly recommended, lots of beautifully reproduced art, a perfect book.
